Hi! We are troop 61214 and we are doing our bronze award project on gun safety. We think Gun Safety is really important because firearms are the number 1 cause of deaths for children in the US. We think it is important to lock up your guns and be put out of reach of children. A lot of people carry guns without having a permit. It is important to have permit when carrying a gun.

~Facts~
- More than 600 people die each day because of the cause of guns
- It is estimated that there are about 1 billion firearms on the planet. The majority with about 85% are in the hand of private individuals, 13% are contained by military soldiers and 2% are owned by law enforcement agencies.
- In 2022, there were 45,222 gun deaths in the United States.
- In 2021, there were 686 mass shootings in the US.

~Solutions~
- The gun must be stored unloaded and locked up away from children. The bullets must be locked, away from the gun. Only parents or responsible adults should know how to unlock the storage boxes or where the gun is.
- Never get the gun out unless a parent or another responsible adult is with you.
- Never point a gun at anyone even if you think its unloaded. ALWAYS assume a gun is loaded.
There are 4 things if a child sees a gun should do
Step 1- Stop what you are doing.
Step 2- Do not touch the gun, even if it looks like a toy.
Step 3- Leave the area the gun is in.
Step 4- Tell an adult right away.
